Ivy Tech, Purdue receive grant for new engineering technology program
October 31st, 2011
The National Science Foundation has awarded Ivy Tech Community College and Purdue University nearly $1 million to start a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology transfer program. Through the program, students will first earn an associate degree in engineering technology at Ivy Tech. Credits then will transfer seamlessly to one of four Purdue University College of Technology sites that offer the bachelor’s degree: South Bend, Richmond, Anderson, and Kokomo.
Currently, Ivy Tech-Columbus/Franklin students earning an associate of science in engineering technology can transfer all of their credits to the Purdue College of Technology in Anderson; officials of the Purdue College of Technology in Columbus are currently working on an agreement so that the transfer can take place locally.
Steven Bardonner, Ivy Tech-Columbus/Franklin department chair of the engineering technology program and one of the authors of the grant application for this transfer program, commented, “This is an exciting program that gives students the opportunity to get started in their postsecondary career with Ivy Tech and then to transfer to the university setting. We are continuing to capitalize on our positive working relationship with Purdue and other four-year institutions.”
