Ivy Tech offers Lunch & Learn Workshop: Manager, Leader, or Both?

As part of its Lunch & Learn Series, Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus/Franklin will offer the first of 12 monthly workshops from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 23, at the Franklin Campus at 2205 McClain Drive. The workshop—titled Manager, Leader, or Both?—will focus on the differences between a manager’s role and a leader’s role.

The cost of this workshop is $25; cost for the entire 12-month series is $249. Lunch will be provided. Those registering monthly should make reservations several days before each seminar to allow for an accurate count for lunch.

Faculty of Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus/Franklin and Bloomington to build upon relationship with sister college in Wuxi, China

Kim Haza, program chair of industrial technology and advanced manufacturing at Ivy Tech-Columbus/Franklin, and Jim Silberstein, assistant professor in the Gayle and Bill Cook Center for Entrepreneurship in the School of Business at Ivy Tech-Bloomington, will travel to Wuxi, China, Columbus’ sister city, to teach electronics, compare curricula and programs, and discuss business practices with faculty in the Professional College of Science and Technology in Wuxi.

Ivy Tech’s Sue Smith promoted to statewide position

Sue Smith, formerly executive director of the Workforce and Economic Development Department of Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus, has been promoted to the position of corporate executive of manufacturing and technology at the statewide level. The primary goal of this statewide division of Ivy Tech, recently named Corporate College, is to assist in raising the skills level of the workforce in Indiana. Establishment of this goal is the result of the need that companies now face to hire workers with higher-level skills than are currently in the market. (more…)

Ivy Tech Community College hosts national education summit

Ivy Tech Community College hosted one of only four regional U.S. Department of Education summits on community colleges on March 23rd at its downtown Indianapolis campus. More than 200 representatives from community colleges in 13 states participated. The selection follows President Tom Snyder’s visit to the White House in October to participate in the first ever White House Summit on Community Colleges. (more…)

Ivy Tech-Columbus begins Summer Academy for Kids & Teens

Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus is instituting a Summer Academy for Kids and Teens, age 7 to 16, for the first time this year. Six different classes will provide both fun and learning for teens and kids.

Classes for which kids can register are Fishing Clinic: The Mechanics of Tournament Bass Fishing, offered on Wednesday, June 16, from noon until 5:00 pm; LuvU2 – Relationship Smarts for Teens, offered on Saturday, June 19, from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm; Awesome Authors – Write your own book!, offered on two Wednesdays, June 23 and 30, from 10:00 until noon; Home Skills for Teens – Learn basic auto skills, small engine skills, home skills, and grilling basics, offered on Friday, July 30, from 8:00 until noon; Patriotic Kids Carnival – Featuring a BLACKHAWK helicopter!, offered on Wednesday, June 30, from noon until 5:00 pm; and Whimsical Signs Art Workshop – Create a bright, fun, personalized sign, offered on three Wednesdays, July 7, 14, and 21, from 10:00 am until noon.
