Ivy Tech Visual Communications Gallery hosts exhibit of American Society of Media Photographers
Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

The American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) has chosen the Visual Communications Gallery at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus to exhibit its annual photography show. The show will run for the month of January, ending on January 28.

For this show, ASMP members of the Ohio Valley Chapter were told the item—a marble—was to be photographed in any way they wished, the only stipulation being that their interpretation of the marble must appear in the photograph. The point of the show is to examine the many different ways in which the chapter’s members, including many of the Midwest’s best-known photographers, explore their subject through interpretation.

The American Society of Media Photographers is an organization that promotes the photographic profession through consistent action and information exchange on rights, ethics, standards, and technical subjects. The Ohio Valley Chapter of ASMP encompasses members living in the metropolitan areas surrounding Cincinnati and Columbus in Ohio, Lexington and Louisville in Kentucky, and in Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as smaller cities in the general area. Chapter members work in advertising, editorial, architectural, fine arts, and other specialty fields. Full membership in ASMP is awarded only after a candidate’s work passes review on both regional and national levels.

Gallery exhibitions in the coming months will include Dave Lesh (nationally renowned illustrator), children’s book illustrators Mark Braught and Laura Knorr, a student exhibition, and a summer faculty exhibit.

For information regarding gallery shows, field trips, or other events, please contact Lloyd Brooks, Program Chair, Visual Communications, Ivy Tech Community College, at 812-374-5139 or rbrooks12@ivytech.edu.
