Darron Cummings

Darron Cummings earned an associate degree in photography from the Visual Communications department of the Columbus Region of Ivy Tech Community College in 1985.  Since that time, he has continued in a successful career in photography, remaining 16 years at The Republic, first as photographer, then as photo editor, and finally as assistant managing editor.

Darron left The Republic in 2001 to join the Associated Press, where he photographs, edits photos, and prepares images for publication on the wire service to newspapers all over the world, to the Internet, and for placement in other publications.  He has either shot or edited photos at such venues as the Masters Golf Tournament, the Super Bowl, the U.S. Open, the Ryder Cup, the Beijing Olympics, and, most recently, during Hurricane Gustav.

Darron comments, “I enjoy my work in so many interesting locations.  I was well prepared by Ivy Tech faculty to enter the field of photography as a career choice.  Although much has changed, especially as a result of digital capabilities, I began, years ago, with the tools I needed to succeed.  I am grateful for the solid background in photography that Ivy Tech provided.”

Barry Richmond was honored by being named the 2007 Distinguished Alumnus of Ivy Tech Community College – Columbus Region.  Barry received an associate degree in HVAC technology from Ivy Tech in 1980, and a bachelor’s degree in human relations management and master’s degree in management from Oakland City University in 1995 and 2001, respectively.  (more…)
