Ivy Tech student Teresa Sluys receives academic honors

Teresa Sluys, a Columbus resident and an Ivy Tech student in the School of Nursing, has been honored academically in three different ways: she has been named to the All Indiana Academic Team, she has been selected as a Phi Theta Kappa Frank Lanza Scholar, and she has been selected as a Bronze Scholar on Coca-Cola’s 2011 Community College Academic Team. All are based primarily on academic standing. Sluys will receive an associate of science degree in nursing in December of 2011. (more…)

Student Profile: Monica Kloepfer

Since arriving in the United States, Monica Kloepfer has made huge strides and achieved success of which she should be very proud. She attributes her success to the faculty members at Ivy Tech, who were extremely supportive, and to her dedication and perseverance in reaching her goals. She is especially grateful to Steve Bardonner, program chair of Design Technology and department chair of Mechanical Engineering Technology & Engineering Technology, for his academic guidance and for introducing her to individuals who also helped her along the way. Congratulations to Rebecca Dobbins for her many academic achievements. She has just been accepted into the associate of science in nursing program and is very excited about it. She is currently working as a phlebotomist at the Greenwood Medical Lab.

Meet Rebecca Dobbins, First-Year Student

Rebecca DobbinsRebecca Dobbins has come a long way.  She has a story to tell and is not shy about telling it.

Rebecca is a first generation college student who was not encouraged to continue beyond high school.  But she knew she was intelligent and could handle the academics, so she was determined to continue her education.  As a runner-up for the Lilly Endowment scholarship, as well as for a scholarship from the Johnson County Community Foundation, her classes were fully paid for.  She took classes at IUPUC for one and one-half years and then met her first husband, whom she thought was a “nice and sweet” guy.  They married, and life for Rebecca began to go downhill.
