Ivy Tech holds Express Enrollment Day in Columbus

Ivy Tech Community College – Columbus/Franklin will hold an Express Enrollment Day in Columbus on Thursday, July 25th, from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.  The event will be held in Poling Hall, 4475 Central Avenue, Columbus – the main building on the Columbus campus.  During this period, new students will be able to complete the entire process for enrollment in fall or spring semester classes in just a few hours.

During the Express Enrollment Day, new students will receive assistance with applications, financial aid, new student orientation, placement assessment, advising, and registration for classes.

100 residents of Jackson County to become Ivy Tech graduates; Jack Hess to be Commencement keynote speaker; Dave Galle, Kelly Higgs, William Harmon to receive honorary degrees; Shanna Wilson to be graduate speaker

A total of 100 Jackson County residents will receive either a degree or a certificate during the 43rd annual Commencement of Ivy Tech Community College – Columbus/Franklin.  The ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 11, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Franklin Community Middle School.  A total of 891 students from the six-county service area of Ivy Tech, including Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson, Jennings, and the southern portion of Johnson Counties, will graduate.

Jack Hess, Executive Director of the Institute for Coalition Building, will be the keynote speaker.  For their outstanding service to the college and the community, Honorary Associate of Science Degrees in Community Service will be awarded to the late Dave Galle, former Executive Director of the Community Education Coalition; Kelly Higgs, Executive Director of Corporate Human Resources Pension and Mobility for Cummins Inc.; and William Harmon, President of Harmon Construction, Inc.

The graduate address will be given by Shanna Wilson, a resident of Scipio, Indiana, who will receive an associate of applied science in accounting.

John Hogan, Chancellor of Ivy Tech – Columbus/Franklin, commented, “We applaud our students, whose hard work and commitment have brought them to this milestone.  Their education will give them a strong foundation for their future work or academic endeavors.  We are pleased to increase the numbers of graduates of Ivy Tech each year, knowing that not only will their lives be enhanced but so will the communities in which they live.”

Ivy Tech Community College – Columbus/Franklin is offering 31 different courses in its fall semester schedule.  Fall semester classes begin on Monday, August 20, and end on Saturday, December 15.  Classes will be held at the Jackson County Learning Center, 323 Dupont Drive in Seymour.  Individuals are encouraged to register soon since classes fill early.

Seymour resident and Ivy Tech student Tiffany Layman named Outstanding Member by Phi Theta Kappa

Tiffany Layman, a Seymour resident and student of Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus/Franklin, has received the Phi Theta Kappa Outstanding Member Award at the Indiana Phi Theta Kappa Regional Conference, held on March 16, 2012. Individuals are selected as outstanding members to recognize superior individual and chapter achievement in Society programs.

5 Jackson County Ivy Tech students receive pins in nursing ceremony

Fifty-three graduates of Ivy Tech Community College’s Licensed Practical Nursing and Associate of Science in Nursing classes were pinned during a special pinning ceremony, held on December 15, 2011, in the auditorium of Columbus East High School. Five Jackson County residents were among those receiving pins, including Sarah Hughbanks and Dara Spall, residents of Brownstown; and Scott Reinhart, Crystal Schrink, and Alicia Anderson, residents of Seymour. Ivy Tech-Columbus/Franklin headcount up 37 percent in Jackson County

Headcount in Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus/Franklin classes in Jackson County is up 37 percent this fall semester as compared to last fall at this same time. A total of 420 students were enrolled on the first day of classes this fall; 307 students were enrolled at the same time last fall. FTE (Full-time equivalent) numbers for the first day of this fall semester are up 38 percent and are an indication that more students are taking classes on a full-time basis than last year. (more…)
