Fifty-three graduates of Ivy Tech Community College’s Licensed Practical Nursing and Associate of Science in Nursing classes were pinned during a special pinning ceremony, held on December 15, 2011, in the auditorium of Columbus East High School. Five Jackson County residents were among those receiving pins, including Sarah Hughbanks and Dara Spall, residents of Brownstown; and Scott Reinhart, Crystal Schrink, and Alicia Anderson, residents of Seymour. Ivy Tech-Columbus/Franklin headcount up 37 percent in Jackson County

Headcount in Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus/Franklin classes in Jackson County is up 37 percent this fall semester as compared to last fall at this same time. A total of 420 students were enrolled on the first day of classes this fall; 307 students were enrolled at the same time last fall. FTE (Full-time equivalent) numbers for the first day of this fall semester are up 38 percent and are an indication that more students are taking classes on a full-time basis than last year. (more…)

Ivy Tech is offering two classes at its campuses in Seymour and Franklin that fulfill requirements for those wanting to become elementary school teachers.
Introduction to PE and Health Education for Elementary Teachers provides the elementary education major with a foundation in physical and health education. Knowledge and skills for planning and implementing health and physical education curriculum to promote physical fitness and healthy living for children Pre-K through 6th grade in the general education classroom will be covered in the course. Eight Ivy Tech-Columbus students from Jackson County inducted into Phi Theta Kappa

Eight Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus students who are Jackson County residents were recently inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society for two-year college students. Students inducted are Seymour residents Megan Atwood, Holly Conway, Kelley Mather, Trent Sutton, Jonathan Troville, and Freddy Valencia-Cruz; and Brownstown residents Tammy Christopher and Tammie Niewedde.

107 Jackson County residents named to Ivy Tech-Columbus Dean’s List for fall semester

A total of 107 residents of Jackson County were named to the Dean’s List for this past fall semester at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus. The college names to the Dean’s List any degree-seeking student who has accumulated 12 or more earned credit hours, is enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours during the term involved, and earns a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
