A total of 100 Jackson County residents will receive either a degree or a certificate during the 43rd annual Commencement of Ivy Tech Community College – Columbus/Franklin. The ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 11, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Franklin Community Middle School. A total of 891 students from the six-county service area of Ivy Tech, including Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson, Jennings, and the southern portion of Johnson Counties, will graduate.
Jack Hess, Executive Director of the Institute for Coalition Building, will be the keynote speaker. For their outstanding service to the college and the community, Honorary Associate of Science Degrees in Community Service will be awarded to the late Dave Galle, former Executive Director of the Community Education Coalition; Kelly Higgs, Executive Director of Corporate Human Resources Pension and Mobility for Cummins Inc.; and William Harmon, President of Harmon Construction, Inc.
The graduate address will be given by Shanna Wilson, a resident of Scipio, Indiana, who will receive an associate of applied science in accounting.
John Hogan, Chancellor of Ivy Tech – Columbus/Franklin, commented, “We applaud our students, whose hard work and commitment have brought them to this milestone. Their education will give them a strong foundation for their future work or academic endeavors. We are pleased to increase the numbers of graduates of Ivy Tech each year, knowing that not only will their lives be enhanced but so will the communities in which they live.”
