Ivy Tech-Columbus/Franklin headcount up 37 percent in Jackson County

Headcount in Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus/Franklin classes in Jackson County is up 37 percent this fall semester as compared to last fall at this same time. A total of 420 students were enrolled on the first day of classes this fall; 307 students were enrolled at the same time last fall. FTE (Full-time equivalent) numbers for the first day of this fall semester are up 38 percent and are an indication that more students are taking classes on a full-time basis than last year. (more…)
Dinner – and experience – is served!

The room buzzed with excitement as the guests sat down for dinner at round tables covered with linen tablecloths in the multipurpose room at Mill Race Center on the evening of July 28th of this year. Wine, supplied by Smith’s Row, was available for those who were interested. Delicious, fresh-baked bread was waiting in baskets on the tables, and waiters and waitresses were poised to begin serving.
The chefs preparing the meal were six students in the Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus/Franklin culinary program and their instructor, Chef Joe Strangis, chair of the hospitality program. Jonathan Wilson, dean of the School of Fine Arts & Design, showed his support by donning a chef’s hat and becoming a server. Chef Strangis had capped the number of guests at 100, and all 100 tickets were immediately swept up. (more…)
Danielle Brandon named Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at Ivy Tech

Danielle Brandon has been named Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus/Franklin. In this capacity, she will oversee the development of partnerships with secondary schools, post-secondary institutions, and other regional educational workforce providers. In addition, she will provide leadership for student affairs programs, admissions and student recruitment, financial aid, registration and records, career services, disability support services, and retention and student success.
Ivy Tech, IUPUC, and the Community Education Coalition partner with Healthy Communities to promote healthier living

Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus/Franklin, Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus, and the Community Education Coalition have partnered with Healthy Communities to promote healthier living by encouraging faculty and staff to park farther from campus buildings and walk. Parking spots located in the extremities of the various lots on the campus have been stenciled to read “Park here to walk farther and be healthier.” (more…)
Ivy Tech Community College hosts national education summit

Ivy Tech Community College hosted one of only four regional U.S. Department of Education summits on community colleges on March 23rd at its downtown Indianapolis campus. More than 200 representatives from community colleges in 13 states participated. The selection follows President Tom Snyder’s visit to the White House in October to participate in the first ever White House Summit on Community Colleges. (more…)
