Kyle Kuntz, Lindsey Trivett, Margaret Wangombe named Outstanding Graduates at Ivy Tech-Columbus

Kyle Kuntz has been named the Outstanding Graduate of the agriculture program; Lindsey Trivett, the Outstanding Graduate of the early childhood education program; and Margaret Wangombe, the Outstanding Graduate of the medical assisting program for the 2009-10 academic year at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus. All are Franklin residents.

Each year one Outstanding Graduate is selected in each academic program at the campus. The award is based on academic performance and overall exemplary achievement.

The awards were presented to Kuntz, Trivett, and Wangombe at the Annual Awards & Recognition Reception on April 30 at the Holiday Inn in Columbus.

Information session on Ivy Tech-Columbus upcoming education classes scheduled at Franklin campus

An information session regarding education classes to be offered during the next year in Franklin will be held at the Franklin campus of Ivy Tech-Columbus on Tuesday, May 4, from 4:00 until 5:00 pm. Dr. Julie Bilz, Assistant Professor of Education, will provide information on registering, admissions, and classes leading to an elementary education degree. (more…)

211 Johnson County residents named to Ivy Tech-Columbus Dean’s List for fall semester

A total of 211 residents of Johnson County were named to the Dean’s List for this past fall semester at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus. The college names to the Dean’s List any degree-seeking student who has accumulated 12 or more earned credit hours, is enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours during the term involved, and earns a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

10 Ivy Tech-Columbus students from Johnson County inducted into Phi Theta Kappa

Forty-two residents of Johnson County became graduates of Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus following the summer 2009 term.

Certified Nursing Assistant class at Franklin campus of Ivy Tech-Columbus achieves 100 percent pass rate

All fourteen students taking the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) class at the Franklin campus of Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus have passed the certification exam, according to Teresa Harden, Associate Professor of Nursing. Training to become a CNA involves 48 hours of classroom and lab instruction and 80 hours of clinical instruction. The classroom instruction was given at the Franklin campus; clinical instruction was given at Silver Oaks Health Campus in Columbus.

Coursework to become a CNA covers a broad range of topics, including basic anatomy, residents’ rights, health care regulations, resident care, cognitive impairment, emergencies, and death and dying.

Registered Certified Nursing Assistants work in hospitals, assisted living facilities, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, and mental health facilities. They assist registered nurses in a variety of ways, including performing physical assessments, taking vital signs, helping residents with personal hygiene, and providing emotional support to patients.
