Forty-two residents of Johnson County became graduates of Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus following the summer 2009 term.

Certified Nursing Assistant class at Franklin campus of Ivy Tech-Columbus achieves 100 percent pass rate

All fourteen students taking the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) class at the Franklin campus of Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus have passed the certification exam, according to Teresa Harden, Associate Professor of Nursing. Training to become a CNA involves 48 hours of classroom and lab instruction and 80 hours of clinical instruction. The classroom instruction was given at the Franklin campus; clinical instruction was given at Silver Oaks Health Campus in Columbus.
Coursework to become a CNA covers a broad range of topics, including basic anatomy, residents’ rights, health care regulations, resident care, cognitive impairment, emergencies, and death and dying.
Registered Certified Nursing Assistants work in hospitals, assisted living facilities, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, and mental health facilities. They assist registered nurses in a variety of ways, including performing physical assessments, taking vital signs, helping residents with personal hygiene, and providing emotional support to patients.
Michael A. Spencer accepts position of assistant professor of mathematics at Ivy Tech-Columbus

Michael A. Spencer has accepted the position of assistant professor of mathematics at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus. In this position, he will be responsible for student advising, recruitment, retention, maintaining records, and teaching such courses as introduction to algebra, concepts in mathematics, and the art of geometry. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he will also serve as math coordinator for the refresher courses at Ivy Tech-Columbus and coordinator for the mathematics adjunct instructors for the College. Ivy Tech-Columbus holds information session at Franklin campus on education programs

Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus will hold an information session from 7:00 until 8:30 pm on Thursday, July 16, at the Franklin campus on McClain Drive. The focus of the session will be the elementary and early childhood education programs.
Brenda Ragle, Ed.D., Education Department Chair at Ivy Tech, will discuss the associate of science in education degree, transfer opportunities, the process of becoming a licensed teacher in Indiana, the Child Development Associate Credential, Teacher Education and Compensation Helps scholarships, the associate of applied science in early childhood education, and opportunities for individuals who have earned the associate of science in early childhood education.
Additional officials will be on hand to answer questions about admission and financial aid.
