Ivy Tech offers Lunch & Learn Workshop: Manager, Leader, or Both?

As part of its Lunch & Learn Series, Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus/Franklin will offer the first of 12 monthly workshops from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 23, at the Franklin Campus at 2205 McClain Drive. The workshop—titled Manager, Leader, or Both?—will focus on the differences between a manager’s role and a leader’s role.

The cost of this workshop is $25; cost for the entire 12-month series is $249. Lunch will be provided. Those registering monthly should make reservations several days before each seminar to allow for an accurate count for lunch.

Three Johnson County residents become nursing graduates at Ivy Tech

Three Johnson County residents became nursing graduates during a Pinning Ceremony on July 26 of this year. Trafalgar resident Alicia Fisher, Nineveh resident Andy Jennings, and Franklin resident Kimberlie Kirby became Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). (more…)

Ivy Tech becomes Accredited Testing Facility for the American Welding Society

Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus/Franklin has become an Accredited Testing Facility for the American Welding Society. As such, students can be tested in Ivy Tech’s Advanced Manufacturing Institute in Columbus rather than having to be tested at one of nine other locations in the State of Indiana. Prior to achieving this accreditation, officials in Ivy Tech’s Workforce and Economic Development department had to send students to Indianapolis to be tested for this certification. (more…)

Tina Gross named Executive Director of Franklin campus of Ivy Tech-Columbus/Franklin

Tina Gross has been named Executive Director of the Franklin campus of Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus/Franklin. In this capacity, she will serve as the College’s chief liaison with communities, school corporations, and constituents in Johnson County, establishing educational partnerships. She will be responsible for developing enrollment management plans, providing leadership and support in the marketing of the College, recruiting students, and providing workforce training for clients in the Johnson County community. She will also facilitate all day-to-day Franklin campus site operations. (more…)

Seven Ivy Tech-Columbus students from Johnson County inducted into Phi Theta Kappa

Seven Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus students who are Johnson County residents were recently inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society for two-year college students. Students inducted are Edinburgh resident Florence Chumbley, Trafalgar resident Katelin Gray, and Franklin residents John Fitzpatrick, James King Jr., Christy Sterns, Kristina Vanduyn, and Kenda Walls.

Phi Theta Kappa is the only nationally acclaimed honor society serving two-year colleges offering associate degree programs. Founded in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa currently operates with (more…)

170 Johnson County residents named to Ivy Tech-Columbus Dean’s List for fall semester

A total of 170 residents of Jennings County were named to the Dean’s List for this past fall semester at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus. The college names to the Dean’s List any degree-seeking student who has accumulated 12 or more earned credit hours, is enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours during the term involved, and earns a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Ivy Tech-Columbus English for Speakers of Other Languages program expands

The recently initiated English for Speakers of Other Languages program at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus has expanded to include the Franklin campus.  Due to the growth of the program, classes will be taught in both Columbus and Franklin.  The program assists speakers of languages other than English in improving their English language proficiency.

Placement testing dates have been set for June 21 and July 19 at the Columbus campus and June 28 and July 26 at the Franklin campus.  The test can take from one and a half hours to three hours, depending upon the language capability of the test-taker.  Advising follows the test and takes approximately 30 minutes.  Both the testing and the advising appointments must be scheduled by contacting Debbie East, ESOL Program Coordinator, at 812-374-5330 or deast8@ivytech.edu.  The test is free of charge.
