Chef Joseph Strangis accepts position of chair of Ivy Tech’s hospitality program

Chef Joseph Strangis has accepted the position of chair of the hospitality program, with a concentration in culinary arts, at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus. Strangis brings with him 40 years of community college teaching and industry experience in the culinary arts. He earned an associate of science in restaurant/food service management, with training as a culinary apprentice, from the Community College of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh; a bachelor of science in hospitality management from Florida International University in Miami; and a master of education in higher education from Ohio University in Athens. Strangis is also a veteran of U.S. Navy, serving during the Viet Nam era. (more…)

Dr. Anthony Gaudin receives the President’s Award at Ivy Tech-Columbus

Anthony Gaudin, Ph.D., Professor of Biology at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus, has been honored as the recipient of this years’ President’s Award. The President’s Award for Excellence in Instruction is presented annually to a faculty member from each of the 14 regions of the college to recognize faculty who typify excellence in instruction and in representing the mission of Ivy Tech Community College. Ivy Tech’s Julie Bilz elected to board of National Association of Community College Teacher Education Programs

Julie Bilz, assistant professor of education at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus, has been elected to the board of directors of the National Association of Community College Teacher Education Programs (NACCTEP). NACCTEP is an organization of community colleges, staff and students, universities, and industry partners and professional associations involved with teacher education programs. The mission of the organization is to promote the community college role in the recruitment, preparation, retention, and renewal of diverse Pre K-12 teachers and to advance quality teacher education programs in the community college.
Bilz will serve on the board as a member-at-large for the 2010-2011 term.

Ivy Tech-Columbus’ Steven Bardonner wins national award

Steven Bardonner, Department Chair of Design Technology and Mechanical Engineering Technology at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus, has received the Education Champion Trophy from Innovation First Inc. for robotics workshops that have taught more than 800 school teachers across the state how to incorporate robotics into their math, science, and technology curricula. Ivy Tech-Columbus adjunct faculty member receives award from Indiana University

Karen Davis, Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus adjunct faculty member in English, has received the “Philip Daghlian High School Teacher of English Award” from the English department of Indiana University-Bloomington. Davis teaches English at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, where she has taught for over 30 years. The award is given to an outstanding English teacher in an Indiana high school who is nominated by a former student and selected by the faculty awards committee of the IU English department.

Dr. Michael Siegel accepts position of dean of the School of Health Sciences at Ivy Tech-Columbus

Michael Siegel, Ph.D., has accepted the position of dean of the School of Health Sciences at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus. In this position, he will provide leadership and community relations/outreach for the School of Health Sciences and be responsible for curriculum and program development, enrollment management, resource allocation, staffing, advising and student success, and instruction.
