Dr. John Hogan, Chancellor of Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus, received an award from the Hoosier Youth ChalleNGe Academy in Edinburgh during a reception for the college’s statewide trustees at Zaharako’s last night. The award was presented to Hogan in recognition of the outstanding support and dedication shown to the academy, as well as for opportunities afforded to its cadets.
The Hoosier Youth ChalleNGe Academy, established by the National Guard, was developed to change the life paths of young men and women between the ages of 16 and 18 who have dropped out of high school or are severely deficient in credits by bringing structure and discipline to the lives of these individuals. During the course of this academy, students, referred to as Cadets, are assisted in attaining their General Educational Diploma (G.E.D.). Cadets are encouraged to continue their education in a college, trade, or technical school. The program is offered to residents of Indiana at 100% tuition free.
The award was presented to Chancellor Hogan in appreciation of a monetary scholarship to Ivy Tech-Columbus, awarded to one of the students who had attained a G.E.D., and for a communications class delivered to the cadets.
