Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus has received a donation of $7,000 from the Grainger Foundation for support of scholarships and equipment. Grainger supplies more than 900,000 products, from adhesives to power tools to test instruments, to 1.8 million businesses and institutions in 153 countries.
The Grainger Advanced Manufacturing Honors Scholarship is valued at $1,500 and will be awarded to an Ivy Tech student applicant currently enrolled in advanced manufacturing studies and carrying a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) or higher. The Grainger Advanced Manufacturing Scholarship is valued at $500 and will be awarded to three Ivy Tech student applicants who are currently enrolled in advanced manufacturing studies and carrying a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
These four scholarships will be awarded in August for the 2010-11 academic year. Descriptions are included in the Ivy Tech-Columbus Scholarship Booklet, which will be available on April 15. Applications are due to the Financial Aid Office by May 31.
The remaining $4,000 will provide a fund for the Advanced Manufacturing program that will be used to purchase needed equipment, including welding and PLC supplies.
Grainger is the primary supplier of electrical and computer training supplies for the program; their donations help Ivy Tech to teach computer programs, electronics, and welding classes. Grainger has supported the Advanced Manufacturing Institute at Ivy Tech since its inception in 2007.
