Career Expo offers opportunity to meet potential employers

Ivy Tech Community College – Columbus, IUPUC, and the Purdue University College of Technology will host a Career Fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, in the Columbus Learning Center. Students, alumni, individuals interested in transitioning into a new career, and individuals looking for employment due to job loss are invited to attend. More than 40 employers plan to attend in order to meet and talk with potential future employees.

Individuals should dress as they would for an interview and be prepared to meet and network with employers, according to Brenda Hotopp, Director of Career Services at Ivy Tech. “They should be prepared to discuss their skills in a short amount of time,” said Hotopp. “If they are not sure how to do this, they should attend the ‘60-Second Elevator Speech’ workshop, to be held during the Career Expo.”

Several free workshops will be held during the day of the Career Expo, including 60-Second Elevator Speech, College Degree = Career Success, Dress for Success, Developing Interview Skills, and What Can You Do with This Major in…. Each session will last 25 minutes.

Employers who will be represented at the Career Fair include Atterbury Job Corps, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, Centerstone, Children, Inc., Cummins, Inc., Developmental Services, Inc.,
