With approval received last fall, Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus is offering a new concentration in the Design Technology program, Construction Engineering, according to Steven Bardonner, Chair of the Design Technology program. All of the courses in this concentration will be offered at Ivy Tech. Students in this discipline will earn an Associate of Science in Design Technology, with a concentration in Construction Engineering. All credits earned for the associate degree are transferable to the Bachelor of Science in Construction Management at IUPUI.
The associate degree will prepare students to work in the architecture and commercial construction fields. General education courses, such as public speaking, English, math, and humanities, will be taught the first year. During the second year of study, students will take such courses as architectural design, CAD fundamentals, construction materials, mechanical and electrical equipment, and estimating and surveying. “All of these classes will prepare individuals to be successful in the construction engineering job market,” Bardonner said.
