Brian Lucas, a December, 2008, graduate of the Ivy Tech-Columbus basic emergency medical technician (EMT) course and a resident of Sweetwater Lake, recently received the Second-Half Champion Award, presented by Wells Fargo Advisors. The award is given to individuals who are 50 years of age or older, have achieved remarkable personal goals, or have made significant contributions to society, or are using the second half of their life for a purpose completely different from the first half. Winners are selected by a panel of judges representing Wells Fargo Advisors.
After 31 years as an air traffic controller, Lucas became a firefighter, an EMT, and a sheriff’s deputy. Using his EMT training, he saved a man’s life at Sweetwater Lake in June of this year. Crediting his instructor, Dennis Rose, Lucas commented that he had been a certified EMT for only five months when the incident occurred.
