Michael A. Spencer accepts position of assistant professor of mathematics at Ivy Tech-Columbus

Michael A. Spencer has accepted the position of assistant professor of mathematics at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus. In this position, he will be responsible for student advising, recruitment, retention, maintaining records, and teaching such courses as introduction to algebra, concepts in mathematics, and the art of geometry. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he will also serve as math coordinator for the refresher courses at Ivy Tech-Columbus and coordinator for the mathematics adjunct instructors for the College. He is also currently involved in developing an online algebra course.

Spencer received a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from California State University in Los Angeles and a Master of Science in education from IUPUI. He has taught mathematics at Crothersville Jr.-Sr. High School, Atterbury Job Corps, All Saints Catholic School, and Bartholomew County Youth Services, in addition to having been an adjunct instructor for Ivy Tech-Columbus since 1998. He is the winner of numerous awards, including the Service Recognition Award, given by the City of Los Angeles; the Letter of Appreciation for Service, given by Atterbury Job Corps; and the Knight of the Year Award, given by the Knights of Columbus.
