Michael Auterson, Ivy Tech adjunct faculty, to present paper at regional conference

Michael Auterson, Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus adjunct faculty member in history, will present a paper at the 25th annual Ohio Valley History Conference, scheduled for October 2-3 at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. The title of his presentation is “The 1856 Slave Insurrection Panic and Its Impact on the Cumberland Iron Region: A Reassessment.” This will be Auterson’s eighth conference presentation since 2001. Ivy Tech’s Charles Sims receives statewide award

Charles Sims, Chair of the Paramedic Sciences program at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus, has received the David J. Edwards Memorial Primary Instructor of the Year award from the Department of Homeland Security for the State of Indiana.  The award was presented to him at the Indiana Emergency Response Conference on August 21 at the Indiana Convention Center.  The award honors individuals for their dedication to providing students with the knowledge and skills needed to be proficient in pre-hospital care. Free Advanced Manufacturing Training Offered at Ivy Tech-Columbus

Three different classes of advanced manufacturing training are offered free through the Workforce and Economic Development department of Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus. Fully funded by the Department of Labor, students pay nothing as long as they complete the class. Participants need previous manufacturing experience and some basic math skills. The registration deadline is Friday, September 18.

Classes include Precision Measurement Tools, in which the focus is on reading and interpreting machine shop symbols, welding blueprints, and working drawings; CNC Machine Operation – Mill & Lathe, in which the focus is on electrical laws and principles pertaining to DC and AC circuits, including current, voltage, resistance, and power; and Basic Computer Aided Design (CAD) Using Pro E Software, in which the focus is on the operation of a CAD system.

Ivy Tech-Columbus assists Schneck Medical Center through Lean Six Sigma training

Lean Six Sigma training

Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus is helping officials at Schneck Medical Center streamline their processes through Lean Six Sigma training, according to Terrill Paradise, Senior Corporate Trainer in the Workforce and Economic Development department at Ivy Tech.  Classes began at Schneck Medical Center on July 29 and will run through October 16.
