Free placement testing scheduled for Ivy Tech-Columbus ESL Bridge Program

Free placement testing dates have been established for individuals who wish to improve their English language proficiency by enrolling in the new English as a Second Language Bridge Program at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus.  The tests assist in placing students into the appropriate level of learning the English language.

Days and times of the testing are 9:00 am until 3:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays from now until August 24, when fall semester begins.  The test takes approximately three hours.  Advising, following the test, takes approximately 30 minutes.  Both the testing and the advising appointments must be scheduled by contacting Debbie East, ESL Program Coordinator, at 812-374-5183 or deast8@ivytech.edu

Instructional components of the program include English reading, writing, and listening/speaking at beginning, intermediate, pre-academic, and academic levels.  Enrollment is determined by the free language placement test offered during summers and each semester for students who wish to enroll the following semester.

The ESL Bridge Program may be taken either on a credit or a non-credit basis.  Testing is required for both.  Questions regarding the credit program may be directed to Debbie East at 812-374-5183 or deast8@ivytech.edu; questions regarding the non-credit program, which is geared toward students who are not as proficient in the English language as others, should be directed to Deanne Olivo, Manager of Continuing Education, at 812-374-5158 or tolivo@ivytech.edu
