Rachel Vallejo-Bohnert, Assistant Director of Admissions and Latino Outreach Coordinator at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus, has been selected as one of 80 prominent educators and community leaders from around the nation to participate in an in-depth seminar at the United States Naval Academy, scheduled for August 3-6 of this year. The seminar will showcase the undergraduate opportunities offered at the Naval Academy for young men and women, particularly those from minority communities. The two-day visit to the Naval Academy is offered with all expenses paid.

Nine medical assisting students of Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus will assist in a health fair at Wal-Mart in Greensburg from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 27. The students will perform blood glucose screenings, blood pressure screenings, and body mass index readings.

Congratulations to Rebecca Dobbins for her many academic achievements. She has just been accepted into the associate of science in nursing program and is very excited about it. She is currently working as a phlebotomist at the Greenwood Medical Lab.
Grant-funded MSSC class offered free at Ivy Tech

Ivy Tech Community College is offering a Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) class tuition free as a result of a grant received in 2008 from the State of Indiana Department of Workforce Development. The class, which normally costs $2300 per student, is offered two days each week for nine weeks, from June 23 through August 20.
Ivy Tech’s Steven Bardonner leads effort for Riley Children’s Hospital

Steven Bardonner, chair of the design technology program at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus and a former patient of Riley Hospital for Children, has been asked to serve as a board member for “Rods for Riley,” a classic car show that will raise money to support the hospital foundation. The event will be held on June 20, from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm, at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Franklin.
