Marian Canada, an adjunct faculty member in business at Ivy Tech-Columbus, was honored as the Ivy Tech-Columbus Outstanding Faculty Member at the Annual Awards Recognition Reception on April 30. One adjunct faculty member was selected as the Outstanding Adjunct Faculty member in each program offered at Ivy Tech; Canada was selected as both the Outstanding Adjunct in her program of business and also for the campus as a whole. All of the adjunct faculty honored were selected as a result of the quality of their teaching, their ability to connect with students, the positive impact they have on their students, and their dedication to the profession of teaching.
Canada holds a B.S. from Indiana University and an M.S. from Indiana Wesleyan University. She has taught every course in the School of Business and has taught at the Columbus, Greensburg, Seymour, and Franklin sites of Ivy Tech. She has also taught for the Workforce and Economic Development department at Ivy Tech and has taught for Indiana Wesleyan University, IUPUC, and DeVry University. She reviews research papers for the Academy of Management Research Committee.
Among other efforts, Canada was lauded for her excellent relationship with students, development of courses for online delivery, serving as a mentor to new adjuncts, representing Ivy Tech on the Center for Teaching and Learning, advising in the Success Center, participating in every adjunct orientation and most campus-related events and meetings, and presenting at conferences.
In honor of her selection as Outstanding Adjunct Faculty for Ivy Tech-Columbus, Canada received a certificate, a plaque, and eligibility to access professional development funds from the campus during the upcoming academic year.
