James Worton, Chief of Police for the City of Columbus and an Ivy Tech adjunct faculty member in public and social services, was named Outstanding Adjunct Faculty at the Annual Awards Recognition Reception on April 30.
One adjunct faculty member was selected as the Outstanding Adjunct Faculty member in each program offered at Ivy Tech. Faculty were selected as a result of the quality of their teaching, their ability to connect with students, the positive impact they have on their students, and their dedication to the profession of teaching.
Worton is a faculty member in the criminal justice program and teaches courses in criminal law, interviews and interrogations, and other criminal justice related courses. He holds two undergraduate degrees from Indiana University. He also graduated from the Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis with a Doctorate of Jurisprudence. In addition to being a managing Partner at Worton & Rohde, he has served as a police officer for the City of Columbus since 1993. He currently serves as Chief of Police. He has served Bartholomew County as a member of the Domestic Violence Action Team, the Bartholomew County Substance Abuse Council, the Bartholomew County Criminal Justice Committee, and the Ivy Tech Community College Criminal Justice Advisory Board.
