This year’s Ivy Tech Book Read has been scheduled to run from Monday, June 15, through Monday, July 6.  John Roberts, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts & Sciences at Ivy Tech, will lead discussions of the book on the four Mondays between these dates.  Meetings will take place from 5:30 until 7:30 pm at the Ivy Tech Corporate Training Institute.  Cost is $20 and includes the book.

The book selected for this year’s book read is Still Alice, written by first-time author Lisa Genova, who holds a Ph.D. in neuroscience from Harvard University.  The book is a compelling novel about a 50-year-old woman’s sudden descent into early onset Alzheimer’s disease.

The reader watches as Alice Howland struggles against the horrifying and inevitable descent into Alzheimer’s.  However, as her cognitive capabilities diminish, she grows in other ways.  The reader watches as Alice loses her cerebral life at Harvard, where she’d placed her worth and identity, where she’d been valued and respected, and then begins a search for answers to questions like “Who am I now?” and “How do I matter?”
