Alice Taulman and Phillip Martinez, Johnson County residents and adjunct faculty at Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus, were named Outstanding Adjunct Faculty at the Annual Awards Recognition Reception on April 30. Taulman serves as adjunct faculty in remedial math; Martinez, as adjunct faculty in liberal arts and sciences.
One adjunct faculty member was selected as the Outstanding Adjunct Faculty member in each program offered at Ivy Tech. Faculty were selected as a result of the quality of their teaching, their ability to connect with students, the positive impact they have on their students, and their dedication to the profession of teaching.
Taulman is an adjunct faculty member in remedial math. She holds a B.S. in education from Franklin College, an M.S. and an Ed.S. in counseling and guidance from Indiana University. She is a member of the school board in Edinburgh, where she served as a teacher and counselor for 36 years. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the International School of Columbus, where she serves on the curriculum and the technology committees. Taulman was lauded for her dedication to teaching math, the amount of time she devotes to preparation of her courses, her individual work with students, and her excellent use of technology.

Martinez is an adjunct faculty member in communications. He holds an A.S. in business administration and an A.S. in education from Annandale Virginia Community College, a B.S. in general studies and an M.S. in operations management from the University of New York. He has been associated with Ivy Tech-Columbus for 15 years, first as a part-time corporate trainer and then as an adjunct faculty member.
He has served as a consultant for the College, an instructor, a trainer, and a mentor to other adjunct communication faculty. He has served as a corporate consultant and trainer for 20 years, conducting workshops and seminars on communication, teambuilding, supervisory skills, leadership skills, visioning and mission, and performance counseling.
