Ronald Dougherty, Professor of Business, Department Chair for the Accounting and Business Administration programs, and Assistant Dean for the School of Business at Ivy Tech Community College, has received the President’s Award in recognition of instructional excellence.  This award is presented annually to a faculty member at each of the 14 regions of the College.  Its purpose is to recognize faculty who typify excellence in instruction and in representing the mission of Ivy Tech Community College.  This award consists of a commemorative plaque and a $500 professional development grant.

As the President’s Award recipient, Dougherty becomes a nominee for the Glenn W. Sample Award for Excellence, a College-wide award that is Ivy Tech’s highest honor for teaching excellence.  It also recognizes excellence in carrying out the College’s mission and having a positive impact on the lives of students, their campuses, and their communities.  This award winner is selected from the pool of President’s Award winners, which represents all 14 regions of Ivy Tech Community College.  The Sample Award winner will be announced in June.

An Ivy Tech faculty member for 26 years, Dougherty holds a Master of Science in Management from Indiana Wesleyan University and a Bachelor of Science in Business from Indiana University.  He was praised for his eagerness to meet with students, his passion for his program, the creation of unique classes that students were excited about and never missed, and his dynamic approach to teaching.  He has served as an advisor for statewide curriculum, has developed courses for statewide on-line delivery, and has negotiated statewide articulation agreements.

Among other honors, Dougherty has been listed in “Who’s Who in American Teachers,” was selected as a Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of Kentucky, was awarded Jaycee of the Year locally, and was selected as one of the Top Ten District Directors of the Year for the United States Jaycee organization.

Dougherty has benefited numerous area organizations with his service.  He is presently serving as webmaster for the Humane Society of Johnson County, on the Senior Services Center Projects Board, and Advisory Board Member for the Finance Academy Advisory Board at Columbus East High School.  He has served as judge for the Columbus Chamber of Commerce Maverick Challenge, as a Board Member of the Tulip Trace Council of the Girl Scouts of the USA, and as an Advisory Board Member of the Small Business Development Center.
