Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus has experienced an increase in the percentage of students representing a variety of ethnicities. Increases in percentages of ethnic students at the end of the fall 2008 semester as compared to the end of the fall 2007 semester were as follows: Native American – 143%; African American – 113%; Asian/Pacific Islander – 59%; Multiracial – 59%; Hispanic – 30%.

“Students of all ethnicities are becoming more aware of the advantages of attending Ivy Tech and are experiencing a welcoming atmosphere here,” commented Randy Proffitt, Ivy Tech’s Executive Director of Marketing.

These increases are a further indication that Ivy Tech is serving more students – and more ethnicities – than ever before. Having experienced a 68.5% increase in enrollments at the end of this past fall term as compared to the end of the fall semester of 2007, Ivy Tech faculty and staff are working hard to keep up with the demand. In addition to the numerous factors leading to the tremendous increases in enrollments, such as demand, a doubling of regional programs offered, and the quality of the faculty and courses, the effort made by faculty and staff to make all students feel welcome has had an impact.
